Did you know that every 5 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and that every 10 minutes, blood cancer takes a life? Did you know that leukemia is the most common disease children in the U.S. die of? And, did you know that only 2 out of 10 patients will receive the transplant that could save their lives?

These are the hard facts, but with your help we can change these statistics.
DKMS and Pat, a 13 year old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March 2006, are Driving for Donors to help battle leukemia and other blood cancers, by holding donor drives in select states across the country to recruit life-saving marrow donors.
The story behind Driving for Donors began when Pat heard about the shortage of marrow donors for patients with leukemia when a friend of his died because she couldn't find a match. This made Pat so sad and he wanted to do something to help!
With the same mission, to help save lives, Driving for Donors joined forces with DKMS, the world’s largest marrow donor center with over 1.7 million registered donors, to raise awareness of the need for donors. DKMS has helped facilitate over 13,500 donor and patient matches.
Each year more than 140,000 are diagnosed with leukemia or other blood cancers. The mission of DKMS is to give every leukemia and blood cancer patient a second chance at life, and with Pat and your help, we can accomplish this. Our goal is to register 8,000 donors, so that more hope can be given to patients and their families.
This will only be possible if everyone embraces this cause and supports the efforts of DKMS and Pat, this courageous young man. We need your help to make this movement a success!
